A Plea for Dues

CAM dues for annual membership are below. Please read this plea for dues by our treasurer, Christopher Brunelle:

Dear members and supporting members of CAM,

Emily West has asked you to contribute your reports to the upcoming annual newsletter, and I’m asking you in turn to contribute your dues to the organization. As our constitution says, every teacher of Latin or Greek in Minnesota is automatically a member of CAM, but every member who pays dues is a supporting member.

Why should you pay your dues? Because with them you support Minnesota classics in several ways:

Awards. Your dues allow us to offer yearly awards to high-school students who distinguish themselves on the National Latin Exam and to congratulate the Latin Teacher of the Year with a plaque and a modest but meaningful honorarium.

Publicity and Communication. Your dues allow us to pay for our website (classicsmn.org), which is capably and graciously maintained by our webmaster, Don Burrows; to sponsor a membership for the CAM Vice President in the Minnesota Council on the Teaching of Languages and Cultures; to print and mail our annual newsletter; and to print our stylish CAM bumper stickers (free to supporting members).

Support. Your dues help to sponsor CAM’s yearly visiting lecturer and to cover the costs of the annual meeting, not all of which are paid for by the fees of those in attendance.

In an effort to keep supporting membership and conference attendance affordable, we have not raised our dues or fees in five years, and at this year’s meeting we voted to keep the dues at the same level ($20 for teachers, $10 for students and retirees) for the upcoming year as well. In order to continue this thrifty tradition, we rely on your support. If you have already paid your CAM dues this year, a renewed thanks. If you haven’t yet paid your dues, please do send them along to me at the address below. Your bumper sticker awaits you.

CAM Annual Dues and Membership

CAM annual dues are $20 for regular members and $10 for retirees and students. The registration fee for the annual meeting is $10 and an additional $10 for lunch. If you wish to register in advance for the annual meeting, please send your annual dues and registration fee to the address below. Please also include your contact information (academic institution, mailing address, email address) so that we can keep our records up to date. Checks should be made out to CAM. If you cannot attend the annual meeting but would like to update your membership and contact information, please send the relevant information (name, academic institution, mailing address, email address) and a check (made out to CAM) to:
